The Giga Tesla is the flagship defence at Town Hall 12. Unlike previous defences that are separate structures, it is part of the Town Hall itself. It is immediately available as soon as the Town Hall has completed upgrading, although it is possible to upgrade it an additional 4 times up to level 5.

Identifying what level it is before you attack

It is wise to identify what level the Giga Tesla is prior to attacking so that you are aware of it’s attacking traits. Between levels 1 and 4, the main difference is the amount of damage it does and number of simultaneous targets it attacks, however level 5 also does a large amount of damage upon destruction which can destroy any troops in range that don’t have sufficient health points.

For war targets, it’s possible to tap on the Town Hall when scouting and see a number of stars. The number of stars indicates the level of the Giga Tesla.

When farming, it’s not possible to select the Town Hall to see the number of stars, however there are Roman numerals on the side to indicate the weapon level and there is a visual difference between each of the 5 levels. The appearance of each level can be seen in the table below:

Note: The level 5 Giga Tesla does 1000 area of effect damage approx 2 seconds after the Town Hall is destroyed.

There are some key visual differences to help identify the level of the Giga Tesla:

Just like other defences, if the Giga Tesla is being upgraded it won’t be active to defend the village being attacked. This is indicated by the rope boundary around the Town Hall and a builder working on it, similar to a normal Town Hall upgrade.

How is it activated?

At the start of an attack, the Giga Tesla is concealed within the Town Hall and is inactive. It becomes active either once 51% destruction has been reached or the Town Hall itself is damaged, mechanics that are similar to the Hidden Tesla.

The Town Hall can be damaged through either being directly attacked by troops, being hit by splash damage from troops attacking nearby structures or by using a Lightning Spell or Earthquake Spell on the Town Hall.

How do you attack the Giga Tesla?

As soon as the Giga Tesla is active, it’s important to destroy it as quickly as you can due to the high amount of damage it does within a large range of 10 tiles. If not destroyed, it can quickly take out most of your army. A Freeze Spell can be used to freeze the Giga Tesla to stop it attacking, however the level 5 explosion is not affected by being frozen.

Town Hall located near an edge

If the Town Hall is on the edge of a village, a Queen Walk can be an effective tactic to destroy it. Keep in mind that the damage from the Giga Tesla can exceed the healing power of the Healers, especially if there are other defences in range also, so is it best to be ready to deploy a Rage Spell to help boost the healers or a Freeze Spell to freeze the Giga Tesla. If your queen is below level 55, you may need to use the Queen’s ability in order to do enough damage to take out the Town Hall before she is overwhelmed, or use a Freeze Spell. When attacking a level 5 Giga Tesla, the Archer Queen will be out of range of the final explosion unless she moves towards it after destroying it. A level 17 Archer Queen has sufficient HP to be able to tank the explosion, however this assumes she is at full health at the time of the explosion. A level 50 Archer Queen can be at 50% health and survive the explosion.

Town Hall located deeper

If the Town Hall is deeper within the village, another tactic can be to use the Wall Wrecker or Battle Blimp with high damage troops inside to take out the Giga Tesla due to them pathing directly to the Town Hall. When combined with a Rage Spell and/or a Freeze spell, this can be sufficient to destroy the Town Hall, however if there are other defences within range of these troops, they may target these and be destroyed before the Town Hall. In these situations, it is best to create a funnel then send the Siege Machine towards to Town Hall with some additional damage troops.

Clan Castle troops to use against the Giga Tesla

Balloons can be a good choice of CC troops to use with a Wall Wrecker or Battle Blimp as they do high damage and when used with a Rage Spell, can take out the Town Hall quickly however you need to ensure that the Giga Tesla is active by the time the Balloons get into range. If not, they will bypass the Town Hall as it is not regarded as a defence until it is activated. Alternative CC troops that are also effective are Valkyries or an Ice Golem and P.E.K.K.A. Making the best choice will likely depend on the rest of your army composition, the layout of the village you are attacking and/or personal preference.

If the Giga Tesla is between levels 1 to 4, it can be worth using the Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome ability when your troops are in range of the Town Hall and attacking it. This will help minimise the amount of damage they receive from the Giga Tesla before it’s destroyed.

When attacking a level 5 Giga Tesla, the explosion after it’s destruction can take out of large amount of weaker troops, such as Bowlers or Valkyries. When using these troops to destroy the Town Hall, it is best to send the Grand Warden with them and use his Eternal Tome ability to protect them from the explosion.

If you are using Miners, they will go underground again before the explosion so they will be unaffected, however if there is another structure within the explosion range, they may emerge above ground again and be affected by the explosion. Using the Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome ability to protect them can help in this scenario.

Bats from a Bat Spell are effective against other defensive structures, however they do reduced damage against resource storages. As the Town Hall at Town Hall 12 is both a storage and a defence (once activated), they will target it however they will take too long to destroy it and will be taken out very quickly by the Giga Tesla. It is better to use other troops against the Town Hall and deploy your Bat Spells once the Town Hall has been destroyed.

Steps for Success

In summary when attacking a TH12, follow the steps below to help ensure a successful attack:

1. Identify the Giga Tesla level and location before attacking.
2. Try and ensure that your troops/heroes that will destroy the Town Hall will do so quickly once the Giga Tesla is active.
3. If using defense targeting troops for taking out the Town Hall, (such as Balloons) ensure the Giga Tesla will be active when they are in range.
4. Use the Grand Warden’s ability to help minmise damage from the Giga Tesla. For levels 1 - 4, use it while the troops are attacking, for level 5, use it immediately after the Town Hall is destroyed.
