Upcoming multiplayer battle changes

As part of the Clash of Clans team’s continuation to improve the core gameplay experience, Battle and Ranked modes are coming in the next update. This article is an introduction to these changes.

Different Attack Types

Currently, when you are attacking other players in multiplayer attacks, players can be attacking for various different purposes such as resources, trophies, achievements etc. If you want to engage in the most competitive attacks, you’ll need to reach Legends League but at the same time, if you are farming hard, it’s possible to accidentally reach Legends League and end up with limited attacks until you are able to drop sufficient trophies.

This change will separate multiplayer attacks to be two attack types: Battle and Ranked Battle

Battle Attacks

These are essentially farming attacks where you can attack other players for resources. You will be matched with a player and you’ll be able to decide if you wish to attack them or press “Next” for a new target, similar to now.

Matchmaking will be primarily determined by your current Town Hall level (more details to follow later)
Unlimited battles are available for all players, including those in Legends League
Trophies will no longer be part of these attacks
Simplified Shield system (more details to follow later)

Ranked Battle Attacks

These are similar to the current Legend League attacks where you will have a limited number of attacks each day and when entering each attack, you won’t be able to skip them for a different target.

Matchmaking will be determined by the player’s progression through the League system
Limited battles and defenses (similar to Legends League now)
The best players will be able to advance to the highest leagues, which have battle modifiers to make them more competitive
Leagues will be reworked with new tiers added

League System

The League System will apply to Ranked Battles, which unlock at Town Hall 7 and the format will be a smaller scale version of the current Legend League. The League Bonus and Star Bonus for players will be based on their current League and will apply for both Battles and Ranked Battles, with both battle types contributing to Star Bonus progress.

There will be more information about the League System to be revealed in due course, however a considerable amount of thought has been put into it to provide a competitive format below Legends League for a broader range of players.

Preparations

To prepare for these changes, this is what you need to know:

In the future, Trophies will only be won/lost in Ranked Battles and will reset after each League Tournament, however your current Trophy count matters:
- All active players will be migrated to the new League system based on their Town Hall level and Trophy count at the point of migration.
- Your highest Trophy count in the existing system will be displayed on your player profile forever, as a badge of honour.
- Unranked players will be initially seeded into a League that better suits their Town Hall level.
Everyone will be able to farm in the new system, however everyone will also be open to being looted (unlike now for players in Legends League).
- Current Legend League players will want to ensure they have a defensive layout active when the update goes live. The Clash of Clans team wants to find a place for show bases somewhere else in game in the future.
- Loot within Legends League will be increased to compensate for being eligible for being looted.
The final Legend League season of the current system will be extended until 6th October 2025
- Final trophy counts during this season will determine placement in the new League system, so performance this season will matter.
- Fair play checks will be done before the migration
- The new Legend League will have battle modifiers
Battle Modifiers
- The highest leagues in Ranked mode will have difficulty modifiers
- Exact numbers and details will be announced soon
Achievement changes
- There will be some changes to achievements with new ones being introduced. If you haven’t completed the League All-Star Achievement (reaching Crystal, Masters or Champion League), now is the time to complete this and get the free Gems.

This change will be the biggest change to matchmaking in the history of Clash of Clans and this information is just the introduction to these changes. More information will follow closer to the update.
